Orange Ginger Chicken Stir-Fry is a bright, aromatic dinner that comes together quickly yet tastes like a restaurant-quality meal. The result is a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and citrusy flavors, ideal for busy weeknights or a special homemade dinner.
Ingredients
For the Chicken
-
500 g boneless, skinless chicken breast (or thighs), cut into bite-size pieces
-
2 tablespoons cornstarch
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
-
2 tablespoons cooking oil (vegetable or sesame)
For the Vegetables
-
1 red bell pepper, sliced
-
1 green bell pepper, sliced
-
1 cup broccoli florets
-
1 medium carrot, thinly sliced
-
½ medium onion, sliced
-
2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
For the Orange Ginger Sauce
-
¾ cup fresh orange juice
-
1 tablespoon orange zest
-
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely grated
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
3 tablespoons soy sauce
-
2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon rice vinegar or lemon juice
-
1 teaspoon sesame oil
-
1 teaspoon cornstarch (mixed with 1 tablespoon water)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chicken
Place the chicken pieces in a bowl. Add cornstarch, salt, and black pepper, tossing until evenly coated. This light coating helps keep the chicken tender and allows the sauce to cling beautifully.
Step 2: Make the Sauce
In a separate bowl, whisk together orange juice, orange zest, grated ginger, garlic, soy sauce, honey (or brown sugar), rice vinegar, sesame oil, and the cornstarch slurry. Set aside.
Step 3: Cook the Chicken
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken in a single layer and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and fully cooked. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
Step 4: Stir-Fry the Vegetables
Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the same pan. Add onion and carrots first and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add broccoli and bell peppers and cook for another 2–3 minutes until vegetables are crisp-tender but still vibrant.
Step 5: Combine and Sauce
Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the vegetables. Pour in the orange ginger sauce and stir well. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Turn off the heat. Garnish with chopped green onions and optional sesame seeds. Serve hot.
