Garlic and Lemon Remedy for Bronchitis Relief
Garlic and lemon have been used for centuries in natural healing. Garlic contains allicin, a compound known for its antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Lemon is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which support the immune system and help cut through mucus. Together, they create a warming remedy that may ease coughing, loosen phlegm, and support breathing.
Ingredients
-
5–6 fresh garlic cloves
-
2 fresh lemons
-
2 cups water
-
1–2 tablespoons raw honey (optional, but recommended)
-
½ teaspoon grated ginger (optional for extra warmth)
Preparation
1. Prepare the garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and crush them gently using the side of a knife or a mortar. Crushing activates allicin, which is responsible for garlic’s healing properties. Let the crushed garlic rest for 5–10 minutes before using.
2. Prepare the lemons
Wash the lemons thoroughly. Slice them thinly, including the peel, or squeeze them if you prefer a smoother drink. The peel contains beneficial oils, but it’s optional if the taste is too strong.
3. Simmer the mixture
Add the water to a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil. Add the crushed garlic, lemon slices (or juice), and ginger if using. Reduce heat and let it simmer gently for 10–15 minutes. Do not boil aggressively, as high heat can reduce some beneficial compounds.
4. Strain and sweeten
Remove from heat and strain the liquid into a cup. Allow it to cool slightly, then stir in honey. Honey helps coat the throat, reduce coughing, and improve taste.
How to Use
-
Drink 1 warm cup, 2 times a day (morning and evening).
-
For severe coughing, sip slowly rather than drinking all at once.
-
Continue for 5–7 days or until symptoms improve.
