Ingredients
For the tart base:
-
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
-
1 tablespoon flour (for dusting)
-
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
For the filling:
-
1 cup spicy sausage (chicken, beef, or turkey – finely chopped)
-
1 tablespoon cooking oil
-
1 small onion (finely chopped)
-
1 teaspoon garlic paste
-
1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-
1/2 teaspoon paprika or smoked paprika
-
Salt to taste
-
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
-
1/2 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
-
2 tablespoons cream or milk
-
1 tablespoon fresh parsley or spring onion (chopped)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Sausage Filling
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent. Add garlic paste and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Now add the chopped sausage and cook until fully cooked and lightly browned. -
Season the Mixture
Sprinkle in chili flakes, black pepper, paprika, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 1–2 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. -
Add Cheese and Cream
Once the sausage mixture has cooled, transfer it to a bowl. Add mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, cream or milk, and fresh parsley or spring onion. Mix everything well. This creates a creamy, cheesy filling with a spicy kick. -
Prepare the Pastry
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly flour your surface and roll out the puff pastry slightly. Cut it into squares or circles depending on your tart molds. Gently press the pastry into greased tart or muffin tins. -
Fill the Tarts
Spoon the sausage and cheese mixture evenly into each pastry shell. Do not overfill, as the cheese will melt and expand during baking. -
Apply Egg Wash
Brush the exposed pastry edges with beaten egg. This helps give the tarts a beautiful golden color. -
Bake
Place the tarts in the preheated oven and bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. -
Cool and Serve
Remove the tarts from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes before removing from the molds. Serve warm for the best taste.
